Tuesday 8 December 2015

Wow!

I'm sure you will agree your children were fantastic tonight!  Thank you for allowing us to work with them each week, they truly are special.

The glasses that were found are still unclaimed.  Additionally there were a pair of boots and a pair of shoes that were left behind.  If these are yours please contact Jacquie jstrom@sd73.bc.ca and we will make arrangements to get them back to you.

Thank you to all of the parents who helped ensure that this night was a success for all!

We hope that you have a wonderful holiday break.  Choir is now done until the new year - we will rehearse again beginning on January 5.

Wednesday 2 December 2015

Music Notes Week 12

What a fantastic job your children did on Tuesday!  Ms. Alpaugh is so proud of them!  They worked so hard and the concert next week will blow your socks off!

Thank you for accommodating the longer rehearsal time this past week - we appreciate it!

For the concert on Tuesday our rehearsal will be held at Calvary Community Church on Rogers Way. We will try to start a bit early, so please try to arrive for 3:45.  We will rehearse for an hour - until 4:45, then an hour break before coming back at 5:45 dressed and ready to go.  The concert will begin at 6:30.  A reminder that for the uniform we need: nicely pressed shirts, with skorts  and black tights (girls) and black pants (boys).  No jewelry or makeup.  Girls hair will need to be french braided.  If you need help with French braids please arrive with damp hair (it's easier to work with), a hair tie and brush and Jacquie can help you out.

A big thank you to the parents (Jenny, Ivy, Kristie, Julie & Carolyn) who helped out with organizing the Fresh is Best fundraiser.  Also to those who placed orders, picked up and delivered - we thank you for your support.  This was a huge success for us!

We will be selling Christmas cards, thank you cards, and birthday cards at Tuesday's concert.  Please encourage your friends and family to support this fundraiser.  This will be your last chance to buy these handcrafted cards by Ms. Alpaugh's Mom.

Saturday 28 November 2015

Great work!

Didn't your children do a fabulous job today!

Please make sure they get an extra hug from Ms. Alpaugh for all of their hard work.  Thank you for making sure they were able to be there for their first concert.

On Tuesday, the KSO Youth Orchestra will be joining us for part of our rehearsal.  So we would like to start rehearsal at 3:30 on Tuesday.  If this start time is going to be difficult, just join us as soon as you can.  The rehearsal will continue until 5:00 as usual.

Tuesday will also be pick up for Fresh is Best.  Look for the sign to indicate which room you will be able to pick it up from at the Henry Grube.  I will be working with a team of parents to organize together all orders.  I'm hoping that we can have them ready for you to pick up to deliver to your customers starting after 4:30.

Thank you for supporting your child through music

Sunday 15 November 2015

Saturday's rehearsal

Don't your children sound amazing? Ms. Alpaugh was so impressed with how hard your children worked during their  rehearsal and they all looked fantastic in their PJs.  A big thank you to all the parents who volunteered their time to ensure the day ran smoothly with bingo, free time in the gym, snack, uniforms and creating the Charlie Brown photo on the green screen.

Please check that your child's uniform fits - they have a shirt, shoes and girls have a skort.  Boys will need black pants supplied.  If you need help with pants, please let Jacquie know ASAP.  The shirt should have enough length that it is able to be tucked in.

REMINDER - On Tuesday we will be at Kamloops Alliance Church for our regular rehearsal time.  It is located on Leigh Rd, across the street from the Henry Grube at the foot of the Overlander Bridge

One more week to collect Fresh is Best orders.  Please ensure they are handed in next Tuesday as our order will be made fresh so we need accurate orders!

Tuesday 10 November 2015

Music Notes Week 9

It's so nice to hear the sound of the choir, even if it is coming through the crack of the door of the rehearsal!  It's hard to believe that in just 4 weeks they will be showcasing all of their hard work through the fall.

On Saturday we have our rehearsal beginning at 9 AM at BEATTIE MCGILL (note the change from your initial notice).  Students get to come in the pyjamas and we will be feeding them pizza at noon.  Additionally, uniforms will be distributed that day.  Please check out the uniform fitting when you arrive home so we don't have any last minute scrambling on a concert day!  Pick up is anytime after 12:00.

It's great to hear that people are purchasing Fresh is Best.  Did you know that all of Fresh is Best's dips (except for the 7 layer dip) can be frozen?  Best stock up for the New Year's Party!  Orders are due back on Nov 24!

Also you will note that next Tuesday we have a venue change.  We will be at Kamloops Alliance Church located across Fortune Dr.  It's close so not to worry if you head to the Henry Grube!

This week continue working on listening to and singing your music for any piece that your child is not 100% confident with.

We will see you on Saturday morning!

Friday 6 November 2015

Oops!!

A small mistake was made on my end for the rehearsal on Dec 8.  We will be rehearsing from 4:00-4:45 at the Calvary Community Church and will ask the students to be back at 5:45.
Thanks for your understanding.  Happy weekend - and don't forget to get out and vote!

Music notes week 7

This week your children learned a ton of choreography as they get ready to showcase it all in 6 weeks! It's unreal how much they have learned in just seven weeks. Thank you for all of your support at home. It really shows when they come to choir each week prepared to continue their learning together.

During the week have your child choose one of the following pieces that he or she has decided to work on (as good musicians do): Suzy snowflake, Marshmellow world, let it snow or winter wonderland. They can continue to work on the lyrics. Additionally please have your child memorize the lyrics (found on a typed out sheet) for Were You There on that night. There will be a special treat for those who have it memorized!

Thanks to Anita for helping with card sales this week. These fundraisers are very important to the choir. This year we need to purchase over 20 pairs of jazz shoes (at approximately $50 per pair) to help complete the uniforms. Please help by purchasing cards and gift tags. Next week we will be sending home notices for Fresh is Best. Check with your neighbours, friends, family and coworkers  to help support us. These make great snacks for holiday parties, watching movies and family get togethers.

If your child will be absent from choir please send an email to Jacquie jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Remember do NOT reply to this email as it will be lost in cyberspace

Happy Halloween!

Sunday 25 October 2015

Facebook group

A Facebook group has been created to help promote KTCC in the community.  Although we have media release forms signed, we recognize that some parents do not want their children's photo to be on Facebook.  If you would prefer your child's photo not to be posted, please email Jacquie jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

To help with promoting the site, please go and 'Like' it on Facebook - Kamloops Thompson Children's Choir.  Please encourage your friends, family and neighbours to 'Like' it too!

Reminder that cards and gift tags are for sale on Tuesday.  There is a huge assortment of cards (birthday, thank you, & Christmas) for $4 or 6 for $20.  This fundraiser is to allow us to have new uniforms made this year.  Each card has been created by hand by Jennica's Mom.  Please stop by in the lobby and grab a few to support the program.

Also we are still looking for jazz shoes.  If you have any that you are able to donate to the choir, we would be most appreciative!

See you Tuesday!

Wednesday 21 October 2015

Music Notes Week 6

The children are doing very well with learning their music.  Miss Alpaugh is getting very excited for the upcoming concerts.  Remember to continue to listen to the youtube videos while following along with the lyrics.

This week please have your children work on Suzy Snowflake, Marshmallow World and Let it Snow so that they have the words memorized for next week.

If you have any jazz shoes that your child has outgrown and you would like to donate them to the choir, please bring them on Tuesday.

Thanks to Lynn for helping with card sales this week.  Cards are available for sale $4 each or 6 for $20.  These are handcrafted cards by Jennica's Mom.  This week we also started selling Christmas tags.  They are available for 50 cents each or 3 for $1.  Please talk to your friends and family about cards and tags.  There are birthday, thank you and Christmas cards (you can never get those started too early!)

Our fundraisers are to assist us with purchasing new uniforms so please help us out.  If you would be interested in an order form for the cards, please email Jacquie at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca and she will have something for you next week.

Also new to the blog this week - Miss Alpaugh has posted the lyrics to This Little Light of Mine (listen to the youtube video while singing, the version is a bit different).  She also posted a few other videos to help out the students.  From the blog http://kamloopsthompsonchildrenschoir.blogspot.ca   click on the youtube tab near the top of the screen to view the videos.  Remember these cannot be played on an iPod or iPad as they need flash player.

If your child will be missing choir, please remember to email Jacquie as well.

Remember do NOT respond to this email, it will be lost in cyberspace!

Have  a great week!
This little light of mine, I'm going to let it shine. x3

Everywhere I go I'm going to let it shine. x3

Music Notes week 5

The children continue to improve each week. Thank you for your continued support at home to ensure they are listening to and practicing their music.

This week students are asked to work at home on Suzy Snowflake and Marshmellow World. Additionally students are asked to continue working on This little light of mine. Please ensure that your child  listens to the YouTube video found on the blog while singing as this version is different than the one many of us already know.

Card sales started this past week. If you didn't get a chance to check them out they will be sold each week during choir. These are handcrafted cards created by
Miss Alpaughs mom and they are truly stunning. Cards are available for birthday, thank yous and Christmas. Cards are selling for $4 each or 6 for $20. Thanks to

Wanted: Jazz shoes

Happy Thanksgiving.  We hope your weekend has been relaxing and allowed you to spend time with people you love.

The choir is currently in search of jazz shoes.  If you have any black jazz shoes that you no longer need and would be willing to donate to the choir we would be very thankful.  We are not fussy about sizes as we have a wide range of feet to cover!

Thanks for your help

Please remember do NOT reply to this email.  If you need to contact Jacquie - email her at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Music Notes Week 4

Your children worked so incredibly hard on Tuesday afternoon!  Miss Alpaugh was so impressed with what they accomplished in the hour.  Way to go!

Homework from last week was a smashing success!  The students earned special choir stickers for accomplishing their homework goal from last week.  This week they begged for homework - it's great to hear they had so much fun with it.  This week the children can listen to and learn This Little Light of Mine.  Also in rehearsal this week, many children knew the melody to Winter Wonderland, but are not sure of the words.  If they can practise reading the words in their music to help get those set too!

Have a fantastic week and Happy Thanksgiving!

Tuesday 29 September 2015

Music Notes Week 3

It is amazing how fantastic your children are sounding in the short time that they have been together.  They are an incredible team!

Although Christmas seems weeks away, your children have already started to learn Christmas music. As their time together is limited, your child will be given tasks to work on at home to ensure the success of the group.
This week your child is to listen to the Christmas Canon found on the blog  http://kamloopsthompsonchildrenschoir.blogspot.ca.  At the top of the page there are three tabs (Home, Youtube and Notes).  Under Youtube, you will find the current songs your child is learning in choir including Christmas Canon.  Your child should listen to the video and follow along with their music with the goal being that the Christmas Canon is memorized for next week.  Additionally they are asked to know what outfits the choir is wearing.
Please note: you cannot watch the youtube videos on iPads, iPods or iPhones as they do NOT have flash player (required to watch the video).

A reminder not to reply to this email as they are lost in cyberspace.  If you have any questions, or your child will be absent from choir, please email Jacquie at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Thank you for supporting your child in music!

Wednesday 23 September 2015

Music notes week 2

As you can see your children are truly wonderful and are learning a lot in the short time that they have already been together.

A reminder to have a black binder, pencil, and water bottle for next weeks rehearsal

Thank you parents for attending the meeting yesterday. If you have any questions or now of an absence for your child please email Jacquie at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca. DO NOT reply to these emails. They will be lost in cyberspace!

Thank you to all of those parents who volunteered their time for jobs for the upcoming year. It helps ensure the choir runs smoothly!

If you haven't had a chance to hand in registration forms yet, please get them to Jacquie for next week. Choir fees of $75 are due asap. If you need any assistance, please let Jacquie know and we can work out a plan. Thank you to those families who have already paid.

We are looking forward to a fabulous year together of making music

Wednesday 16 September 2015

A Fantastic First Day

Wow!  What a fantastic group of singers we have this year!  It was great to see some familiar faces on Tuesday and meet lots of new ones too!  Your children did a great job of listening to Ms. Alpaugh, sharing their wonderful voices and learning some new songs.

Thank you to all who took care of their child's registration.  If you have not yet filled in the registration forms - please bring your child's care card number and doctor's information next week to the parent meeting.  Registration fees can be paid at the meeting as well - $75.  Cheques can be made out to KTCC.  If you bring cash, please have exact change.

In an email sent out by Jennica Alpaugh earlier this week, she had included some attachments.  Please discard that information.  If you did not pick up new dates and chair schedule, it will be available in hard copy for you next week at the parent meeting.

The mandatory parent meeting will be held at 4 PM in Room 6.  We will discuss expectations for the year, fundraisers, and we will be looking for some volunteers for a variety of jobs.  Just before 5 PM, your children will demonstrate some of their learning.

If you haven't had a chance, please ensure that your child has a black binder, pencil and water bottle to bring for next rehearsal.  For those children who have their fees paid, we will ensure they receive their music next week if they didn't get it on Tuesday!

If you haven't already, please subscribe to this blog.  If you don't know how to subscribe to the blog, Jacquie will show you next week and will assist with sign up too!

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Jacquie at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca   Please do not reply to these emails as they get lost in cyberspace!

If you were unable to attend our year end celebration on Sunday or did not return your music and uniform please ensure it arrives at Beattie McGill- just dropping it at the office is fine (my secretary is used to it!). Unfortunately I will have to issue invoices for any un-returned uniforms at the end of May.

Music Notes

The children have done such a wonderful job in the last couple of weeks - we are so impressed.  Thank you for ensuring they have been able to join us and be a part of the team in the last few extra concerts.

Tomorrow - Wednesday - Students will meet at the Sagebrush Theatre in proper concert attire for 10 AM.  When you arrive at the lobby, please look for Joanne (Justine's Mom).  The session should be over between 11:45 and 12:00 noon.  Please ensure that your child is picked up promptly at noon. You are welcome to stay and watch all of the groups perform.
If your child is being picked up from school by another parent, please write a note to your child's school to indicate that this parent or other adult has permission to pick up your child for this purpose, otherwise they will not release your child from the building.

VENUE CHANGE MARCH 10
Next week, we will be meeting at St. Andrew's on 6th Ave during our regular practise time so that the children are able to record their songs from festival as they have been recommended to the provincial level.  A notice did go home with your child today - apologies for the minimal notice.  This venue change is ONLY for KTCC.

Thank you for your continued support!

IMPORTANT KTCC VENUE CHANGE!!

Wow!
Your children sang beautifully last night. We are so proud of how hard they are working each week.
This morning I received a phone call from the festival letting me know that Ms. Dennis (the adjudicator) was so impressed with our performance last night that she has recommended our recording be sent to the provincial  festival for the next level of compition!
This is a huge compliment from Ms. Dennis and a testament to how hard your children have worked!

Give them an extra hug for me tonight.
See you Sunday!

Important dates

February and March are going to provide some busy times for us with festivals happening around Kamloops. These festivals allow KTCC members to listen to other choirs and to receive valuable feedback from adjudicators who are specialists in the field. It's amazing how much they will grow over the course of the next few weeks as a choir.

Thank you to all of those who took time out of their busy weekend schedules to ensure your child was able to join us at our extra choir practice and pizza day this past Saturday. Your children worked extra hard to keep themselves focused and continuing to learn and improve!

Upcoming dates;
Thursday February 26 - Kamloops festival of the performing arts held at the calvary community church on Rogers way. Please have your child there at 5:45

Sunday March 1 - KTCC will share their music at Kamloops United church.

Wednesday March 4 - Music in the High Country festival held at the sagebrush theatre. Students will need to arrive at 10:00. We will be looking for a parent volunteer to assist in the morning to greet students and let them know where they need to meet Miss Alpaugh.  If you would be able to help us out please see Jacquie on Tuesday.

There are still some blazer tickets available. Ger your name in for the contest we are running! All money raised ensure our program is able to run effectively.

Music Notes Week 11

What a great start to the new year!  The children received new music yesterday and Ms. Alpaugh has posted new Youtube videos on the blog.  For the Youtube videos to work you will need to view them on a computer (tablets and smartphones don't support Flashplayer which is necessary for them to work).  It's one of those small glitches that we haven't yet worked out in the technology world yet.

Next time you are in the Henry Grube Centre, there are a few new pictures up from the Winter concerts for all to see.  They can be found on the bulletin board across from the washrooms.

As the colds and flus circulate around, we recognize that your child is not always in the best health to be at choir.  If you could please send Jacquie an email at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca to let us know that would be wonderful - thank you!

A few new dates for your calendar: - times to be confirmed later

Saturday February 14 - Craft Day in the morning

Thursday February 26 - Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts in the evening

Sunday March 1 - KTCC sharing at Kamloops United Church in the morning service
