Hello Choir Parents!
What a fun concert tonight- your children looked and sounded awesome! Thank you for your dedication this concert season! Our final event of the year will be Saturday at the Kamloops Wildlife Park. There is little warm up space so we will meet at a new time of 5:45. Our set will only be 15-20 minutes so please remain with your child. This is not a drop off/ pick up event. Don't forget to dress as warm as possible- no choir uniforms necessary. This event is meant to be a fun family/choir celebration, if you cannot make it we will see you in January as there will be no choir next Tuesday (December 19).

Have a wonderful Christmas Season!! Thank you for sharing your children with us!

Ms. Alpaugh

December 5th Rehearsal

We will be at the Alliance Church for rehearsal this week in preparation for our Christmas Concert on December 10th.

Posters were handed out at our rehearsal as a keepsake for the kids. Please keep in mind that seating is limited so we welcome family to this event but will not be advertising to the public. Our Spring Concert will have plenty of seating to invite neighbors and friends.

If your child was uncomfortable in their uniform at our last concert, please email me at manager.kthc@gmail.com so we can correct this. We want them to be comfortable in their outfit on stage for the concert.

For some reason the YouTube link works fine until put on the blog. Please copy the link and paste it to the internet search bar (instead of clicking on it). We have been having more success with it this way.

https://youtu.be/yHCkW0uSkgc

We learned a new song today called "Skater's Waltz". Below is the lyrics for the song and a YouTube video. The Children's Choir will be performing this with the Honour Choir on the 10th. They are not singing the entire song only the following lyrics:

Skater's Waltz

Gently we glide,
Smoothly we slide,
Softly we dance to the skater's waltz.

Moving to the left
Moving to the right
as we dip and sway

Following the beat,
Magic in our feet
As the music plays

Dancers circle a round to the one, two, three, sound
of the beautiful skater's waltz

Here is the YouTube link for the song (again try and copy and paste it into the internet search bar if clicking on it doesn't work).

Remember to bring to this rehearsal:
Binders, pencil and water bottles.

Thanks,
Meghan

November 28th Rehearsal

Google is having some issues with the Blog app. Please make sure you pay close attention to the title of the posts to ensure you are getting the right information as it has sent out duplicate posts or posts from previous years with our other blog site.

Rehearsal will be at the Henry Grube Centre on the 28th. We will be learning and practicing a new song with the Honour Choir so it is very important that all of the KTCC members attend this rehearsal.

This is going to be a wonderful Christmas Season and we are so proud to showcase the talent of the kids in the Children's Choir! Our first event will be this Sunday at the Summit Drive Church. Looking forward to seeing you all there.

Rehearsal November 14th - Venue Change

Our next rehearsal will be held at the Kamloops School of the Arts in the Music Room (same room as last time). Please park on Fraser Street and enter the school by taking the stairs going underneath the overpass onto the main level.

With Winter Season upon us, we ask that every venue we attend, children please remove their boots at the entrance way and carry them to the rooms we are in. Please do NOT leave boots in the entrance way of the venues as this creates a tripping hazard. This will help to reduce the amount of work the janitorial staff must do when we attend these venues and ensure that there is less slipping and tripping hazards for everyone.

There was an error on the Events for the Christmas Season Blog post that went out yesterday. Please note that the time for pickup from the Summit Drive Church event on November 26th should be 12:30pm (not 2:30pm). I will have copies of the Blog Post with all the Event details to hand out to the Children at our next rehearsal with this error corrected.

Thank you,

Meghan

Reminder rehearsal is Cancelled this Week

A reminder that rehearsal this week is cancelled for Halloween.

The Blog has been updated with a special application called "Upcoming Events" on the left hand-side of the page. This is a quick reference for you to see what is coming up in the next couple of months including where rehearsals will be at.

T-Shirts have been ordered and will be handed out at our Craft Day along with uniforms. If you have not paid the $85.00 registration fee, you will need to do so in order to receive your Child's uniform.

I wanted to let you all know that the Honour Choir has a fundraiser going on for the month of November where they are collecting used goods for Value Village. If you happen to be donating anything, please bring it to one of our rehearsals this month and leave it by the sign in table.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Rehearsal October 24th, T-Shirt Sizes and Fresh is Best Fundraiser

Hello Everyone,

Our next rehearsal will be held at the Henry Grube Centre again on Tuesday, October 24th at our usual time of 4:00 to 5:00.

I have managed to get a hold of a couple shirts for sizing purposes. Jennica, Joy and I will do our best to find the right size for your child at the next rehearsal. If your child is unable to attend, please make sure you give us you best guess as we will be sending in our order a day or two after rehearsal.

Finally, I have had a couple parents asking about the Fresh is Best Fundraiser that was mentioned at the Parent Meeting in September. We have decided to cancel this fundraiser since our uniforms were purchased brand new last year and we do not have a need to raise these funds for any replacements this year.

Looking forward to seeing you all on Tuesday!

Hello KTCC!!

I had the honour of meeting all the KTCC students at our rehearsal yesterday and I am so excited to work with you all as your new manager. A huge thank you to Mrs. Bouw and Mrs. Alpaugh for all the work they have done to make this a smooth start to the year.

There will be some changes coming while we are transitioning so please ensure that you pay close attention to the blog for updates.

We are in need of volunteers!

We are looking for a group of parents who can help out with attendance. Every rehearsal, we will have a parent who ensures that each student signs in and grabs their name tags and then has parents sign the sign-out sheet at the end of rehearsal. This is a great position for parents who show up early at 3:45 and wait for their child in the lobby during rehearsal. If I could get 3 or 4 parents, we could do rotations throughout the month.

We also need volunteers for our craft day on November 18th. Some positions that need to be filled are: picking up pizzas from Costco in the late morning and bringing them to us, helping to set up and monitor craft stations and snack stations, tidying the room throughout the morning.
Please let me know if you are available!

My contact information is:

Please contact me at anytime if you have any questions or comments.

Kamloops School of the Arts, 1390 9 Ave, Kamloops, BC V2C 3X5

Welcome Mrs. Noftall!

As of today, KTCC would like to formally welcome Mrs. Meghan Noftall as our manager!  Mrs. Noftall is currently the manager of the Honour choir and now will manage both choirs.  Mrs. Bouw will still be at the rehearsals doing drama with the students and handle PR, so she is still happy to answer all of your questions.  Mrs. Noftall comes to us with an extensive background in project management and event planning- we are very lucky to have her!

Sign Out Proceedures

Just a quick reminder that an adult needs to sign out your child each week in order for me to release them.  If your child is going home with a friend's parent, please make sure that parent knows their name and is prepared to sign them out.  Your child's safety is our utmost priority, so thank you for your help!

Music Notes Sept 19

Thanks to everyone who made it to our change of venue today at Kamloops United Church.  Next week we are back in our regular location at the Henry Grube Centre.

We recognize that Sept is a busy time of year for families as many activities get started again, however please recognize the importance of the commitment of choir.  Just like any sports team, we have regular rehearsals (and only one per week!) and each week we grow and learn together as a team.  When your child is not present for a rehearsal due to a conflicting event, it makes it very challenging for your child to catch up, but also the team is let down.  Thank you for your attention to this.

Your children continued to work and learn together today.  If your child hasn't brought their music home yet, it means they still need a black binder with a pencil to keep everything safe!  A water bottle (that is labelled!) is always a good idea too.

If you haven't had a chance to pay your choir fees yet, please get them handed in ASAP.  Receipts will be issued as well.

If you have any questions or concerns, remember do not respond to this post, but please feel free to email Jacquie at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Saturday 16 September 2017

Wow!

Wow! What a fantastic job your children did today at the Children's Festival!  We were so impressed and hope you enjoyed it too!

Thanks to those of you who have already paid your registration fees - it's greatly appreciated!

A reminder that on Tuesday, our rehearsal is moved to Kamloops United Church 421 St Paul St.  Parking is a bit tricky around there with the demolition of the Kamloops Daily News building, so you may need to park  a few blocks away.

Enjoy the rest of your sunny weekend.

Circus Music

In case your child was hoping to practise a bit more prior to their showcasing on Saturday at the Children's Festival, below is a link to a youtube video that will help them do just that!

Please remember if you are using an iPad or iPhone, that it doesn't support flash player and therefore you will be unable to view the video

Reminders from Today

Thank you all for coming to the meeting today!
Please follow our Facebook page for behind the scenes photos and reminders:
https://m.facebook.com/Kamloopschildrenschoir/

Remember to bring your fees ($85) and our registration forms if you haven't handed them in already. At this time, we cannot accept email money transfers, only cash or cheques made out to "Kamloops Thompson Children's Choir."

Reminder to bring a black binder next week. If your child received their music today, make sure they come with it each time.

Reminder on Tuesday we will be at Kamloops United Church, downtown by the YMCA.

See you Saturday for our circus themed performance at the Children's Festival! 9:40 by the tree at the water park on the round benches! We're excited! Wear your wackiest circus clothes and feel free to do your hair crazy too!

Sept kick off - update

Sept 11, 2017

Dear Families,

We hope you had a fantastic first week back at school and we are very excited to begin choir tomorrow Tuesday Sept 12 at the Henry Grube Centre.
Apologies for the lack of communication to begin the year, however I am actively dealing with a personal medical situation. As a result, Joy Bouwmeester and Meghan Noftall have graciously stepped up to fill in the gaps before I'm able to return to my role as manager for KTCC.

Tomorrow, students will meet together in Room 1A and rehearse for the full hour as we will do a showcasing on Saturday Sept 16. Parents/Guardians will meet together with Joy and Meghan in Room 6.

Please bring with you (as best as possible under the circumstances):
For your child:
A 1” black binder, a pencil attached to the binder and a waterbottle that have all been labelled

For our parent meeting:
A pen, your child’s doctor & phone number, your child’s care card number

At this meeting, you will learn the ins and outs of the choir, including the important dates for the fall term (this includes a showcasing on Saturday Sept 16 - meeting at 9:45 for approx 45 mins at the Children’s Festival in Riverside Park), how to stay connected with the blog, and other important tidbits (alternative venue locations, picking up your child at the end of rehearsal, and the easiest way to exit the Henry Grube parking lot).

I look forward to connecting with all of the families later on in the fall.  If you have any other questions, feel free to send me an email jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Thank you for your understanding,

Jacquie Strom

KTHC students & provincials

For those families that are moving onto Honour Choir next year (your child is currently in grade 4), can you please contact Sara Piroddi (current manager) and Meghan Noftall (manager as of Sept) for some information ASAP.  They can be reached at: manager.kthc@gmail.com

For those staying in KTCC (your child is currently in grade 3), continue to watch the blog for our start up in September.  We will likely begin again on: Tuesday September 12.

In case you didn't already know, the Performing Arts BC Provincial Festival is happening in Kamloops this week!  Both KTCC and KTHC were put forth by the adjudicator to compete at the provincial level.  That said it will be our recording that is adjudicated at the provincial level.  We will let you know when we hear anything further!

Saturday 6 May 2017

Big Day Sunday!

A reminder that Sunday we have our dress rehearsal at the Sagebrush Theatre beginning at 1:30.  Please come dressed in full uniform (purple dresses, tights -with feet, white ribbon, jazz shoes and hair french braided; boys white shirts, purple ties, black pants & jazz shoes).  We will enter and exit via the back stage door entrance located up the stairs from Munro Street.

Our rehearsal will be finished close to 3 PM and then we will ask the students to be back at 6 PM for the concert, where we will meet at the back stage door again.  The concert begins at 6:30 - admission is by donation.

We will need uniforms washed and returned on Tuesday, when we have our final wrap up and celebration where families are welcome to join us at Kamloops School of the Arts.  We will meet at the regular time likely in the library - located on the second level.  Afterwards, bring a picnic blanket and we will share a small treat together outside.

Thursday 27 April 2017

Important Update!

Here are some of the final bits and pieces as we move into our final few weeks of choir.  Our next two choir meet-ups (May 2nd and May 9th) will be happening at Kamloops School the Arts (same as this past Tuesday).

On Sunday May 7 we will have a dress rehearsal from 1:30-3:00 at the Sagebrush Theatre.  Please have your children come dressed in their formal uniforms (dresses/tights/hair braided/jazz shoes or black pants/white shirts/ties/jazz shoes) as we will be having our formal pictures taken.  Sorry this rehearsal is closed door - no sneak peeks!

The concert for the evening begins at 6:30 PM, but we will ask that your children arrive back at 6 PM so that they are able to properly prepare themselves for the evening.  Admission will be by donation.

Finally, we will celebrate all of our accomplishments together on Tuesday May 9 and we invite family to attend.  Bring a picnic blanket to share in a treat outside as we say farewell!

Tuesday 25 April 2017

Music Notes April 25

Thank you for accommodating the venue change again today.

Your children started learning a new song today. You can find it on YouTube when you search Sesame Street Outdoors. Listening to it throughout the week will help them learn all of the words.

Please watch the blog before our rehearsal on Tuesday May 2 as there will likely be a venue change!

We had a great time on school tours - your children did a wonderful job performing. You are in for a treat on Sunday May 7. I'm hoping details will be confirmed for next week, we are just waiting to hear back from a few people in regards to our rehearsal. Thank you for your patience!

Your children did such a magnificent job today representing the choir in each of the schools today.  Each school was impressed with the caliber of music that your children created.  We will do it again tomorrow - drop off at the Henry Grube at 8:15.  Pick up will likely be closer to noon!  Please come with water, jazz shoes (in a backpack!), snack and wearing black pants with the yellow KTCC shirts!

A reminder that next Tuesday our rehearsal is held at Kamloops School of the Arts - located at the corner of 9th Ave & Fraser St.

We have our final concert on Sunday May 7 at the Sagebrush Theatre which will include a dress rehearsal in the afternoon.  Times still to be confirmed!

If you haven't already, please return your intentions for next year.  Any student who is currently enrolled in choir will have their spot secured for next year IF they indicate before choir wrap up on May 9.  We will be starting  the audition process for next year at the end of May.

Choir's back!

We hope everyone had a restful Spring Break.  We are back at it tomorrow with our regular rehearsal time and place.  In case you didn't hear, our choir was recommended to compete at the provincial festival level.  We are so pleased with how well your children performed.  Before you start packing your bags, the festival is located in Kamloops this year AND as we were recorded, we do not need to perform again.

However, later this month - April 20 & 21, we will be at school tours in the morning of each day.  Details will be coming home shortly.

Music Notes Week 13

It was great to see everyone last week.

With being in the middle of flu season, we recognize that there will be many more absences.  If your child will be away from choir, please send Jacquie an email at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca   Thank you!

We are busy preparing for two festivals that will occur in the first two weeks of March.  We are awaiting to hear from the event organizers for exact dates and times.

Ms. Alpaugh has begun posting new YouTube videos on the blog under the YouTube tab.  Please encourage your child to listen to these while they rehearse each week.  More videos will continue to be added, please check back for any missed songs.  Just a reminder that you need to view these on a computer as they require flash player.

You can mark your calendars for our Spring Concert on Sunday May 7 which will be held at Sagebrush Theatre.
