Concert Notes

Friday we have our big Christmas concert at the Kamloops Alliance Church.  Children need to arrive at 5:45 dressed and ready to go (Girls - dress, black tights, ribbon tied in the back, hair french braided; Boys - black pants, white shirts).  If you need help with braiding, please have your child to the church prior to 5:45.  Please have your children carry in their jazz shoes and change them inside the church.  At this point we ask parents to please collect their child's coat and boots.  Please drop off and pick your child up from the cafe area located to the right of the sanctuary.

The concert begins at 6:30, with the doors opening after 6:10 PM.  Admission is by donation.

A reminder that the church parking lot will be very busy with our two choirs performing in addition to another event occurring at the church.  If possible please carpool.

Did you know that the Kamloops Thompson Children's Choir has  a Facebook page?  Please let your friends and family know so they can be up to date on all of our appearances!

Music notes week 11

Thanks to all who helped organize the fresh is best orders. If you are missing anything please let Jacquie know ASAP via email jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Next week we have a venue change to Kamloops alliance church prior to our concert on Friday dec 9.  A few notes about the concert, due to a smaller venue (unfortunately it was the only space available) we expect things will be tight in the sanctuary. In the spring we will be back to our regular and larger venue of the sagebrush theatre. Additionally there are other activities happening at the church that night so we encourage as much carpooling as possible. Finally admission is by donation.

Enjoy your week!

A job well done!

Way to go! I'm sure you are very proud of your children for how well they performed on Saturday at the Bells of Note concert.  They did such a wonderful job.  We heard from so many members of the public as to how well they did!

A reminder that Fresh is Best orders will be available to pick up at the Henry Grube Centre tomorrow after choir.  We will be getting all of the orders organized during our regular choir rehearsal.  If you have volunteered to assist with this (a special events person) we will meet at approx 3:45 in Room 3.

Thank you!

Friday 25 November 2016

Bells of Note Concert

Today (Saturday) we have our concert with the Bells of Note at Kamloops United Church (421 St Paul St).  We ask that the children arrive promptly at 1 PM so that we are able to have some rehearsal time with the Bells of Note prior to our performance.  The concert begins at 2 PM and in past years it has been over closer to 4 PM (this is dependent of course on the number of groups performing).

If girls can please come with their dresses and black tights on and hair french braided.  Boys have their white shirts and black pants.  Children will carry their black jazz shoes into the building and can change them there.  Parents if you can please collect all coats and outside shoes so that we have less to worry about.  If you need help with braiding hair, please arrive prior to 1 PM with damp hair.

When you enter the building from St. Paul St you will go up a few stairs and then follow the hallway to the back room where we will meet around the piano.

Sunday 20 November 2016

Reminders for the upcoming week!

Thanks to everyone for making it to the Saturday rehearsal.  Your children worked so hard!

On Saturday - we handed out yellow KTCC shirts.  These shirts are for the kids to keep.  They are free to wear them to school and out and about.  We know that so many of them love to be in choir and we are happy for them to share their love!  We will have times that we ask the kids to wear them to specific events, so please keep tabs on them!

We also handed out uniforms.  We did our best to make things fit as best as possible working with the inventory available.  The boys were given black pants, white shirts and black jazz shoes.  The girls were given dresses, a piece of ribbon and black jazz shoes.  There are a few children who did not receive a part of their uniform - we have things on order and will do our best to make things work for our concert on Saturday (I'm hoping everything has arrived by then!) For the girls - the only part of the uniform not included is tights.  We ask that you purchase your own black tights with feet.   Additionally, for concerts we ask that the girls hair be put into one French braid.  If you need assistance with braiding, please arrive before the requested time for a concert so that we have the time to assist you with this.

A big thank you to all of the parent volunteers on Saturday who helped with uniforms, snack & lunch, as well as the other activities that happened in the morning.  You made my job so much easier!  Thanks again!

On Tuesday - our Fresh is Best orders are due.  Please total each column of sale at the bottom of the page (It just makes my job much easier) and send in all forms and money in a bag/envelope on Tuesday.  I will be placing the mass order on Tuesday evening, so must have everything received.  Thanks for your help with this.

Also we have a venue change on Tuesday - we will be at Kamloops Alliance Church.  That is located across the street from our usual location of the Henry Grube Centre.  The choir will be rehearsing in the Fireside Room (same location as last time).

Finally on Saturday (Nov 26), we have our first showcasing at Kamloops United Church (421 St. Paul St) with the Bells of Note.  Please ensure your child is there promptly at 1:00 as the children will need to rehearse with the Bells immediately prior to the concert commencing at 2 PM.

Thanks for your help in making our choir successful!

Thanks to those who emailed to let me know of absences.  If you know that your child will be absent from choir, if you could please send me an email at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca  Thanks!

Please continue to support your child on memorizing their music and have a look at the Youtube video for Mexican Mouse.

We did send home our one and only fundraiser for the year to help minimize our costs.  We are excited to partner with Fresh is Best again this year.  All products listed are available for $5 each, and all of the dips for sale can be frozen (that helps you plan your New Year party!)  Please ensure we have all payment when orders are collected on November 22
Thank you for your support!

If you haven't had a chance to pay your choir fees (there are still a few outstanding) could you please send them in next week.  We will not be able to issue your child a uniform (on November 19) until fees have been paid.  Thank you for your understanding.

Week 4 Music Notes

Sorry I'm a few days late posting to the blog. Your children had another successful week. It's amazing how quickly they are learning their music. Thank you for your continued support and encouragement at home. Please continue to have your children practice at home by listening to the videos posted on the blog. Just a reminder that they will not work on iPods/iPads/iPhones.

If your child is going to be away from practice if you can please let Jacquie know with a quick email to jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Thanks to those families who took care of their registration fees this week!

Enjoy your long weekend with your families. We will see you for our regular practice on Tuesday.

Tuesday 27 September 2016

Week 3 Music Notes

Another week (and somehow the end of September), and more improvement.  Your children have been working on three songs this week and some already have some movement involved with it too!  They are encouraged to keep practising the three songs they've been working on in choir
Candles
Up in the Sleigh
Noel

 - Ms. Alpaugh will be putting up some youtube videos onto the blog (just look under the Youtube tab) for your children to watch and sing along with to help with practising at home.  Just a note - these links cannot be played on iphones/ipads.

Thanks to those families who sent in their registration fees this week.  If you haven't returned your child's registration forms please do so ASAP, otherwise I will be sending home blank ones next week.  We need this info in case we need to get a hold of you.

Thank you for your support in choir

Enjoy your week!

Tuesday 20 September 2016

Music Notes Week 2

Your children are sounding great - and it's only week two.

Ms Alpaugh will work to get some of their music posted on the blog for your children to listen to and follow along. Please note that iPhones and iPads will not allow these videos to be played as they need flash player.

Thanks to those who were able to pay fees today. I will hopefully get receipts issued to you for next week.

This week we sent home a t-shirt design for our choir. We are asking those who would like to participate to create a simplistic design using black and white only to represent our choir. Please ensure to include KTCC somewhere in the design.

Did you know that education in music enhances many aspects of a growing brain's development - it has been shown that on average, children who are exposed to a structured program of music study perform better in school and on tests than those children who do not.

Thanks for your continued support of music!

Tuesday 13 September 2016

A great first day!

Thanks to all for a great first day! Your children did a wonderful job and we can't wait to see what wonderful music that they create this year together.

A reminder to please have a black binder, pencil and water bottle (all labeled) for next week.

Just a note when leaving the Henry grube - as traffic is so busy on tranquille you will likely find it easiest to turn right on beach avenue which then turns into Schubert dr. Turn left at fort avenue which will then give you the light at tranquille rd

Have an amazing week!

Thursday 8 September 2016

We are looking forward to creating more beautiful music with our senior members in the fall and look forward to seeing what our graduates create in KTHC.

Enjoy the summer and create some wonderful memories!

Music Notes Week 24

Thanks for the extra accommodation on Tuesday to allow us to celebrate our successes at the two festivals we participated in.  We will take a break from choir over Spring Break and start again for our final session together on April 5.

Enjoy the warmer sunny days!

Wednesday 9 March 2016

Music Notes Week 23

Thank you for all you do to ensure your child's success in choir!  I greatly appreciate each of you for ensuring your child was able to make our rehearsal on Tuesday - despite all of the venue changes.  They did a fantastic job at the recording.  This recording will be sent in to Performing Arts BC to compete against other groups in their age category.

If you had a chance to stay and listen to your children today at the High Country Festival at the Sagebrush Theatre, you saw how wonderfully they performed.  Thank you for taking the time out of your day to be there!

Next week we are going to celebrate all of our successes this far in the year with pizza for the students.  Therefore we should be finishing up next week between 5:15-5:30 back at our regular rehearsal space.

There will be a break from choir during Spring Break, but we will begin again on Tuesday April 5 for one more month of singing!  Please start to think about and talk with your child if they will want to continue in choir next year.  We will send home a survey after Spring Break to confirm this.  If your child is currently in grade three, they will remain in KTCC with Ms. Alpaugh.  If your child is currently in grade four, they would move up to the Honour Choir with Ms. MacPherson.

Enjoy your week ~ we will see you on Tuesday!

Monday 7 March 2016

URGENT - VENUE CHANGE

Our location for rehearsal for Tuesday March 8 has MOVED!  There is a conflict with the venue.

So we will be at St. Paul's Anglican Church at 4th and Nicola St (the white church).  Huge apologies for the confusion and late notice.

This is only an audio recording, so no uniform is needed.

Please share this with all KTCC parents!  Thank you

Sunday 6 March 2016

What a wonderful phone call!

I was just off the phone with a member of the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts, the adjudicator was so impressed with how wonderful KTCC sounded.  As a result, he has nominated our choir to compete at the provincial festival.

Before you start packing your bags, we will only be sending our voices via a recording.  Therefore, our rehearsal on Tuesday MARCH 8 will be held at St Andrews Church on 6th Avenue.  Please try to arrive by 3:45 PM.  We should be finished around the same time (5:00).  Apologies on the short notice, but it is what we could make work.  As per usual this remains a closed rehearsal so everyone is able to remain focused.

If you have any questions, please email Jacquie jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Congratulations to members of KTCC!

Thursday 3 March 2016

Please give your children an extra hug from us.  We will see everyone on Tuesday with the High Country Festival put on by the school district on Wednesday morning.

Enjoy your weekend!

This week only sing through Risseldy Rosseldy and Path to the Moon once only.  We don't want to overdo it before festival next week!  For homework focus on the Step In Time video that is on the blog.  Find it under youtube links.

Ms. Alpaugh was so impressed with the choir this week.  They have been working so hard and it shows!  Way to go!

Upcoming dates - we have two festivals that we will be a part of in March.  These festivals allow KTCC members to listen to other choirs and to receive valuable feedback from adjudicators who are specialists in the field.  It's amazing how much they will grow over the course of the next few weeks as a choir.

Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts will be on Thursday March 3.  Please have your child at the Calvary Community Church on Rogers Way in Aberdeen by 5:30 PM in complete uniform (KTCC shirt, skorts and black tights(girls) black pants (boys), and jazz shoes).  Please remember no jewelry (this includes earrings, necklaces and bracelets!) and hair needs to be french braided.  If you need help with the braiding, please have damp hair and arrive earlier than 5:30!

A few notes about the Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts - doors will not open before 6:15.  Admission is $2 per person and if you would like a program (which includes every event throughout the festival they are $10).   Photography and Video recording are not permitted during the festival due to copyright laws and the ushers will be enforcing this.  The adjudicator will be taking extensive notes and therefore absolute silence is asked during the performance and following each piece.  We will discuss at rehearsal what a formal performance looks like and what the choir will need to do.

Music in the High Country is the music festival hosted by School District 73.  The students will be performing at the Sagebrush Theatre on Wednesday March 9.  Please have your child there for 9 AM.  You are invited to stay for the performance but understand that many of you will need to return to work.  It is expected that the session will be done before lunch time - I will do my best to get an expected release time for you ASAP

If you have any questions, or know that your child will be absent please email Jacquie jstrom@sd73.bc.ca  and please DO NOT reply to this email.  Have a wonderful weekend

Music Notes Week 18

The time this week just flew.  Mrs. Froese couldn't believe where the time went, they just had so much fun and worked incredibly hard!

A reminder that the craft and pizza day that was scheduled for this month (Feb 13)  is CANCELLED

On March 3 we have Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts in the evening.  I'm just working to confirm the time.

For homework, please have your children continue to work on 'Tis a Gift that they focused on this week during rehearsal.

Enjoy the Family Day long weekend and create some special memories together!  See you Tuesday!

Monday 1 February 2016

It's February!

I've missed a few weeks of posting - but choir continues.  Tomorrow we learn if spring will come early (I'm not too hopeful as I see the white stuff fall from the sky) or if winter continues.

Just a quick update to let you now that we have cancelled the extra choir rehearsal on Saturday Feb 13.

Thanks to all who have emailed over the past few weeks to indicate if their child will be absent.  It definitely makes things much easier for me!  Remember don't reply to these emails, but email me directly at jstrom@sd73.bc.ca  Thanks!

See you all tomorrow.

Music Notes Week 15

Did you know that your children have amazing tongue twister skills?

They worked so hard today with Mrs. Froese, she was so hard with their level of focus and their effort put forth today.

Please have your children continue to work on Risseldy Rosseldy - it's quite a tongue twister!  Also have them listen to and follow along with Path to the Moon with the youtube videos that Ms. Alpaugh posted on the blog.

If you didn't already mark it on your calendar (or put it in your phone if you are like me) Thursday March 3 in the evening is Kamloops Festival of the Performing Arts.

If/When you know your child will be absent from choir, please send Jacquie an email jstrom@sd73.bc.ca

Music notes week 14

We hope you had a great break and it was good to see everyone on Tuesday.

Thanks to Mrs Froese and Sam for leading choir this week.

Ms Alpaugh has posted all of the YouTube videos on the blog. Just visit kamloopsthompsonchildrenschoir.blogspot.com and click on the YouTube tab to view. A reminder that these will NOT play on iPads or iPhones as they need flash player.

Please have your child focus this week on Path to the Moon and Risseldy Rosseldy. They can listen to the YouTube clips and follow along with their music. These will be festival pieces.

Speaking of festival you can add to your calendar that Kamloops Festival of Perforning Arts for choir will be held on the evening of Thursday March 3. The exact meeting time and venue will be confirmed soon.
