Meeting Recap

Thank you to everyone who made the meeting yesterday a priority.  Here is a brief recap and overview of upcoming activities.

  • Drop off is 3:45 each week and pick up is promptly at 5.  Please arrive a few minutes early so you can initial by your child's name for sign out.  We will take the sign out sheet to call students for dismissal at 5, so if you have not signed it by then you will have to wait for the first round of students to be dismissed.
  • We must enter from the side door at Henry Grube, rather than the front and remember we are being generously gifted this space, but it is primarily our district office space so we must be conscious of being quiet and respectful in the halls.
  • A parent/child contract must be signed and handed in when registration fees are paid.  If you have not done so, please let Paige know and she will give you one to sign on Tuesday.  If you have not yet paid your registration fees please do so on Tuesday.  We will not be collecting fees at Saturdays concert.
  • You child will need a black binder to keep their music safe as they are only borrowing the music.  Please ensure they have one for Tuesday.
  • Choir's are a team and attendance is mandatory, as the children depend on each other.  Sometimes we learn an entire song in one rehearsal! The exception, of course, is illness. If your child is going to be absent, please email Paige as we must do attendance each week.  If attendance becomes an issue, your child will be dismissed from the choir as we have an extensive wait list.  If you have one pre-planned holiday, we understand,  please check with Mrs. Bouw or Mrs. Alpaugh so we can make sure your child isn't given a special role for performances.
  • Uniforms will be issued our first craft day on Saturday, November 3rd.  We will be at KSA that morning from 9-12, and it will include games and a pizza party.  Jazz shoes are not to be worn outside, and you  must return your uniform in the condition you were given it.  Thank you to our wonderful team who is in charge of issuing uniforms- we couldn't do it without you!
  • We are having a t-shirt design contest for our yearly team shirts.  This shirt and black pants or leggings is our alternate uniform for events (girls hair is in a bun for these events). Please have your child design an image if they would like to participate.  Entries need to be in ASAP as we will be wearing our design at the October 6th Farmer's Market Busking event.
  • Please do not reply to the blog.  It will be lost in cyber space.  Please email Paige, our manager, at
    ktchildrenschoir@gmail.com
    for all necessary communication.
  • We look forward to seeing you this Saturday, at Riverside Park for Kamloops Children's Festival (provided your child was present for rehersal on Tuesday, otherwise they can watch). We will meet by the waterpark tree at 9:40, dressed as superheroes or wearing red, blue and/or gold.  See you then!
  • Occasionally we will need an alternate rehearsal space.  When this occurs you will receive an email and there will also  be a Facebook post if you use social media.  This may be last minute as the Henry Grube may suddenly need the space.  We will be at KSA on 9th Ave in the music room when this happens.  Please subscribe to the blog for updates on this.
  • Please subscribe to this blog by typing your email in to "follow by email".  You will receive an email from FEEDBURNER (likely to your junk mail) find this email and follow the instructions to be linked for all updates.  Please check back here for any info before you email.  Thanks again!

Please Fill Out Registration Form for Returning Students of KTCC

If your child is returning this year to Kamloops Thompson Children's Choir with Ms. Alpaugh, please fill out the registration form below if you have not already done so.  We are working to make sure all spots get filled as it was very competitive this year.  If you have changed your mind about returning, please also let us know so we can give your spot away.  Thank you!

April 29th and May 1st - Year End Concert and Wrap Up Party

Our year is coming to an end but we have two more wonderful events coming up to celebrate all the wonderful and hard work the kids have done this year!

April 29th - Year End Concert
KTCC will run a dress rehearsal at the Sagebrush Theatre at 1:00pm until 2:30pm.  Please have your child come dressed in his/her formal uniform with black socks/tights, jazz shoes and with hair in a french braid so we are able to take group photos this rehearsal/photo session (arrive at 12:30 if you need your child’s hair to be french braided). We also ask that any kids who have choir medals from previous years, please wear them. Unfortunately parents are unable to sit in the theatre and watch during this rehearsal.
Please have your child back at the Sagebrush theatre at 5:15 for a 6:00 concert (doors open at 5:45pm for audience), finishing at approx. 7:00pm. The Sagebrush has plenty of seating so invite as many family and friends as you can to our evening performance!

May 1st - Wrap Up Party
To recognize all of our accomplishments as a choir we will be having a celebration day at KSA at 4:00pm in the Common Room (by the drama and dance studio). At this time we will have uniforms and music returned (please please please remember to bring these items!!!). Additionally we will share a small treat together as this will be our final meeting together.  Families are invited to join us in celebrating our achievements along with the Honour Choir.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate in contacting us!

April 24th - Rehearsal

Ms Alpaugh is asking that the kids review this YouTube Video to help them practice. If the link doesn't work, please copy and paste it into your browser.

https://youtu.be/9tXzlVjU1xs

Our last rehearsal for the year on April 24th will be held at KSA in the Music Room. Please remember binders, pencils and water bottles.

Finally, I wanted to let you all know that my family and I are moving away. Unfortunately it is very quick, as of next week and I will no longer be at choir. That being said, I will still be answering the manager email and organizing the events from a far so please don't hesitate in emailing or calling me should you need anything. It has been so wonderful working with you, thank you for an amazing year!

Thank you,

Meghan

April 17th and 18th - School Tours

School Tours is next week. If you have not gotten your permission form in (along with the "Are you Returning to Choir" form), please email it to me ASAP at manager.kthc@gmail.com or hand it into Ms Alpaugh at KSA during school. Children will not be permitted on the bus if this form is not signed.

A reminder about School Tours:
April 17th and 18th - School Tours
Students will perform at four different schools within the school district to share their love of singing and spread the word about choir. April 17th: David Thomson and Lloyd George and April 18th: Dallas and RLC Elementary. Drop off at HGEC at 8:10am and pick up is 11:45am at HGEC. Please bring a good snack and a water bottle. The children will need to wear black pants, teal KTCC shirt, black socks/tights, bring your jazz shoes, hair in a bun, no makeup or jewelry. A letter has been sent to their Principals so they will not be marked as absent while on tour.

There will be No Rehearsal next week on April 17th since we have school tours that day.

We are also in need of parents who know how to French Braid hair to help with the Year End Concert. You will be asked to show up and help with hair at 12:30 - 1:00 and then again for a quick fix up at 5:15pm. You will not miss out on the concert! Promise!

Call for Volunteers

Hello,

I am in need of some Volunteers for the remaining events for the Choir.

1. April 17th and 18th - School Tours - Photographer, First Aid
I need 1 parent who can take photos of the kids during their performances (nothing fancy) and 1 parent who has their valid first aid certificate.

2. April 29th - Year End Performance - Hair/Uniform
I need 3 or 4 parents who can help backstage with French braiding hair and inspecting uniforms. You will of course be done before the performance starts so will not miss anything!

3. May 1st - Wrap Up Party - set up and clean up
I need 2 parents who can help with preparing food and cleaning up the venue afterwards. You will not miss out on any of the fun events.

If you are able to help us out, please email me at manager.kthc@gmail.com

We depend heavily on our parents to help these events go smoothly so please assist us in any way you can!

Thank you,

Meghan

April 3rd - Congratulations!

As you have most likely heard from your kids, we are so excited to announce the Children's Choir has been asked to go onto Provincials by the Kamloops Festival of Performing Arts! A recording of our performance will be sent on our behalf (we will not be attending in person). Congratulations to our hard working kids!

Hello,

Rehearsal next week, March 20th is cancelled due to spring break.

Meghan

Tuesday 6 March 2018

March 13th - Congratulations

Thank you to all our Choir Members for doing an absolutely amazing job at Festival! You have made us all proud with your beautiful voices and respectful behaviour!

A gentle reminder that jazz shoes are mandatory for every performance regardless of which outfit the kids are wearing - stage or casual. If it is an outdoor event, they can then wear their own shoes (like the wildlife park).

Rehearsal will be this Tuesday at KSA in the Music room on March 13th.

Thank you,

Meghan

Festivals March 6th and 7th - Final Notes

Please read the details carefully as this is going to be a very busy event and we need everyone to be organized. We also ask that you ensure the kids have their songs memorized for Tuesday and Wednesday.

New info in bold:

March 6th -
Arts in the High Country Festival
Venue: Sagebrush Theatre
Arrival Time: 8:45 morning
Uniform: We want the children dressed in black pants and teal t-shirt (NOT their stage uniform), hair neat and pulled back, no nail polish, makeup or jewelry.
They are estimating that they will be done at about 10:30

March 7th -
Kamloops Festival of Performing Arts
Venue: Full Gospel Tabernacle 1550 Tranquille Road
Arrival Time: 4:45 evening
Uniform: We want the children dressed in full stage uniform, hair in a french braid, no nail polish, makeup or jewelry.
Estimated end time will be 6:15
Please note that they had some programs go out to the public about a different location which was an error... this is the correct location so disregard anything else you may read. There is also a $3 charge for audience members (not Choir Members).

For both Festivals:

Please turn off all cell phones and noise makers. Hallways and main foyer are considered quiet zones as is the performance area. No photography or video recording is allowed.

We ask that you arrive promptly at the scheduled time. Arriving early will interfere with the Festival Organizers setting up the venue and arriving late could mean missing the warm up. Please take your children's coats, boots and other belongings with you as we do not have a space to hold these items. We expect every child to have a parent or guardian in attendance during each Festival as there will be no chaperones.

Festival is a formal place setting and we will be reviewing audience etiquette prior to our performance. Please discuss with your child how formal settings require certain behaviour expectations such as sitting quietly during performances, only getting up to leave between performances and listening carefully to instructions from adjudicators, teachers and directors. Please also note that no parent or choir member is to speak to the adjudicator unless on stage and addressed by them.

Please ensure you review these details carefully as we can be deducted marks or disqualified for unruly behaviour or interrupting performances.

Let me know if you have any questions manager.kthc@gmail.com

Thank you!
Meghan

Thursday 22 February 2018

February 27th

Rehearsal will be at HGEC again. Please note this is the last rehearsal before Festivals so attendance is a Must!

First rehearsal of 2018!

We hope everyone had a wonderful Holiday and a very Happy New Year!

Our first rehearsal for 2018 will be this Tuesday, January 9th, 4:00pm at the Henry Grube Centre.

Please bring your binder, pencil and water bottle. We ask that everyone remove their shoes at the front entrance and carry them into the rehearsal room (do not leave them at the front door as this creates a tripping hazard).

Looking forward to seeing you all and getting this year started on a beautiful note!

Meghan
